Managing Waiting Rooms

This article focuses on waiting rooms, which Zoom users can configure in their settings before scheduling meetings. Go to Resolving Unexpected Behavior In Meetings for other security tips.

What are Waiting Rooms?

Waiting rooms are a way for hosts to control who joins a meeting once it’s started. If a meeting host has enabled the waiting room, the host, alternative host, or co-host can admit participants into the meeting.

Can I Customize the Waiting Room?

Hosts can customize the message participants see when first attempting to join a meeting.

To update your Zoom settings, log in to your Boise State Zoom web portal (not the desktop app) and follow the steps outlined in Zoom’s knowledge base.

Admitting Participants from the Waiting Room

Hosts, alternative hosts, or co-hosts can admit participants once a meeting is underway.

Sign into meetings a few minutes early to admit participants from the waiting room. Make sure you only admit users who are legitimately supposed to be in the meeting.

  1. Click Participants in the bottom toolbar.

  2. If there are people in the waiting room, click Waiting Room.

  3. Click Admit next to the participant's name, or Admit All to admit all users in the waiting room.

Sending Participants to the Waiting Room

If you accidentally admit someone unintentionally, you can send them back to the waiting room.

  1. Click Participants in the bottom toolbar.

  2. Hover over the participant’s name and click More.

  3. Click Put In Waiting Room.
