Taking ProctorU Record+ Exams with Guardian Browser

As of May 8th 2024, Boise State University will be switching to the Guardian Browser. The ProctorU Browser Extension will no longer be supported by the university after May 8th.

Summary

ProctorU Record+ is an automated exam proctoring service that does not require appointment scheduling. Students must have access to a computer with a webcam and microphone to use Record+. You can find a full list of minimum system requirements on ProctorU's website. In order to take ProctorU exams, students must create a ProctorU Test Taker account, as well as download and install Guardian Browser.

Preparing for Exams

Section 8 of the Boise State Student Code of Conduct outlines the definitions, policies, and procedures for academic misconduct. While taking exams, students are expected to uphold the standards set in the Code of Conduct. All exam sessions will be reviewed by a live proctor. Students should abide by the requirements below when taking tests.

  • Have your Student ID Card or Drivers License ready for the identity verification process.

  • Clear your work area of items that are not related to your exam, including cell phones.

  • Remove and put away hats, beanies, smartwatches, and headphones.

  • Remain seated throughout the exam. If you need a personal break, please take one before you begin.

  • Take your test in a quiet, distraction-free area.

  • Avoid loud noise and speaking out loud while taking the exam.

  • Position yourself in a clear view of the camera throughout the test. Your face should be fully visible at all times.

  • Refer to any additional exam requirements shared by your instructor.

Starting the Test

  1. If you do not already have one, create a ProctorU account. You must use your Boise State Student Email. Be sure to check your inbox for a verification link and verify your email right away.

  2. To minimize technical issues, restart your computer before starting an exam. Be sure to close any unnecessary applications.

  3. Launch the Guardian Browser from your computer. If Guardian is not installed on your machine, see Installing ProctorU's Guardian Browser.

  4. In the Guardian Browser, navigate to https://canvas.boisestate.edu/ and log in.

  5. Access the Canvas course in which you need to take the exam, and navigate to the test.

  6. Click the Take the Quiz button to begin. The ProctorU Pre-checks process will begin. Click the Get Started button to continue.

  7. Follow the on-screen directions to complete the identity verification process. Be ready to present your Student ID Card or Dirver’s License. Your exam will begin once you complete all the steps.

Otherwise, you can connect with ProctorU Support online, call +1-855-772-8678, or submit a request to ProctorU support.
