HSIEC Schedule:

  • All Finalists Teams Announced by Dec 15th

  • Finals Pitch: January 28th

    • Pitches Start Remotely at 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

    • Finals Pitch-Off: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

What Each Finals Team Will Need

  • Company Logo

  • Brief Company description (1-2 Sentences)

  • 10-20 Second Intro Video (Only

  • Minimally schedule at least 1 pitch practice with the Venture Collège team (we recommend more than 1)

  • Completed Pitch Deck (rubric below)

Pitch Details:

  • All pitches will be 4 minutes or less

  • Please follow the general pitch-deck outline, which includes the following slides:

    • Team Name/Intro

    • Problem

    • Service/Product

    • Solution (How your service or product solves the problem)

    • Go-To-Market

    • Financial Model

    • Progress to Date

    • Next Steps?

    • Team

    • Thank You/ Questions

  • Pitches will be followed up with a Q&A session of 4 minutes or less

  • Pitches will be given over Zoom and you will be sharing your screen to navigate the slides.

  • If your team has multiple members, it is not required that they all present during the 4 minutes. It’s your choice.

  • Each team will pitch three times during the pitch off.

Scoring Rubric:

The purpose of the High School Idaho Entrepreneur Challenge is to motivate and reward teams that show progress in creating an actual business or venture. As a result, the rubric is changing to reflect the nature of the competition. In short, teams with the most progress will be rewarded higher than the teams with the best ideas (but no progress or execution).

Teams will be scored on the following four criteria listed below. Please note the words underlined are specific slides to be included in their pitch presentation:

  1. Value Proposition

    1. Do they clearly articulate a problem or market opportunity?

    2. Do they clearly explain what their product or service is?

    3. Do they clearly explain why their product or service will solve the market problem or opportunity?

  2. Likelihood of Market Adoption

    1. Do they clearly articulate a go-to-market strategy, including targeting a specific customer segment?

    2. Is their go-to-market strategy realistic and probable to succeed?

    3. Is their finical model realistic and likely to be received by the market?

  3. Progress to Date

    1. What progress have they shown beyond just an idea and a pitch?

    2. Have they clearly laid out next steps needed to make the launch and/or growth successful?

    3. Have they demonstrated they are a team that can execute beyond idea creation?

  4. Pitch Quality

    1. Was the pitch clear?

    2. Were the slides easy to understand?

    3. Did they perform well during Q&A?

Pitch Deck Tips

Please note the following suggestions or tips:

  1. The template is just a guide. You can change colors, change the colors, etc. (▶️ See Video)

  2. Some topics, like financials, are easier to explain over two slides. For example you could have one slide showing cost vs. revenue, followed up with a slide that shows projections. Or one slide could explain a general problem and a second slide explaining why existing solutions in the market are not solving the problem. (▶️ See Video)

  3. Use minimal words on your slides (see examples).Replace words with icons or pictures. Some slides, like a problem slide, might not need any words at all - it’s just a visual aide to what you will be talking about. (▶️ See Slide by Slide Video Tips)
