Summary

This document explains how to create an assignment in Blackboard.

Instructions

In Blackboard you can create assignments for your students to complete; the instructions below will show you how.

  • In the course content menu, select a folder in which you wish to place the assignment. In this example, we will use the "Assignments" Folder.
  • In the build bar hover over the "Assessment" button.
  • Click "Assignment".

A new screen will appear containing the details of the Assignment.

  • Add a title to the Name and Color box.
  • Add instructions
    • This is a great place to specify the file type you would like your students to submit, “Please turn in a Word Document” for example
  • Attach a file if needed
  • Select a due date
  • Fill out the points possible
  • Associate a Blackboard Rubric if you wish (these need to be created in Blackboard)
  • Review and change submission details if desired:
    • This area controls Assignment Type: Individual, Group, or Portfolio Submission
    • This are controls Number of Attempts: Single, Multiple, Unlimited
    • Select the Plagiarism Tools if desired
  • Fill out the grading options.  This area controls the delegation of grading.  Most assignments leave these settings at default
  • Fill out the display of grades.  This area controls the visibility of grading, most assignments leave these settings at default
  • Choose the assignment availability
  • Choose whether or not to have views tracked
  • Click "submit"
  • Click on the assignment link you just created to review what the assignment will look like for your students when they access it
