M43 Lesson 2 Notes: Value Proposition Canvas

Section 1: Intro to Value Proposition 

Class Discussion: Review each section of the Value Proposition Canvas:

  • Customer Jobs

  • Customer Pains

  • Customer Gains

  • Product & Services

  • Pain Relivers

  • Gain Creators

Class Activity: Fill out the VPC as a class using real-world examples:

  • Uber 

  • Brightwheel 

 

Section 2: Understanding the difference between Must Haves and Nice to Haves 

Breakout Activity: 

  1. Class will breakout in groups of 4 

  2. They will be given a list of different customer segments for Uber along with a list of problems they solve. 

  3. Students will match each customer segment with the problem they think is most important for that segment. 

  4. Repeat the process for other examples given. 

  5. Return and discuss as a group 



Section 3: Articulating Value Propositions  

Group Activity: Each student will share: 

  1. What competition did they find for their idea

  2. Why they think their value proposition still stands 



Homework: 

Fill out a full value proposition canvas by next class. Also do the following: 

  1. Make a note of which hypothesis you fill most strongly about

  2. Which hypothesis you are most unsure about 

  3. Which hypothesis is a make-or-break for your business idea 

  4. Schedule a 1-on-1 mentor meeting 

  5. Prepare a 1-2 sentence elevator pitch
