Downloading Alternative File Formats



This article will describe how to download alternative file formats using Blackboard Ally.

Instructions

Accessing Alternative Formats

  • Find the file you'd like to access

  • Select the gray dropdown arrow next to the item and select "Alternative formats"

  • Select the format you'd like and click "Download"

Text automatically extracted from a PDF.

Allows for easier reading of scanned PDFs and text search.

Tagged PDF

Structured PDF for assistive technology.

Provides structure for screen readers, allowing students who use screen readers to more efficiently move around the document.

HTML

Document structure for the web.

Allows faster viewing in a browser and more responsive text on a mobile device.

ePub

Format used on e-readers, like the Kindle or iPad.

Allows reading on an e-reader, as well as annotating and highlighting.

Electronic braille

BRF version for electronic braille displays.

Necessary for blind students who prefer an electronic braille display.

Audio

MP3 recording of text.

Allows students who learn better through audio to absorb information more easily.
