Running a ProctorU Readiness Check

Summary

ProctorU provides a compatibility check tool to detect potential hardware, software, and connection issues that may cause problems during an exam. This article outlines how the tool should be used.

Instructions

  1. Ensure you have created a ProctorU Test-Taker Account and Installed Guardian Browser.

  2. Launch Guardian Browser and navigate to https://go.proctoru.com/students/system-metrics/new (sign in with your student account if prompted).

  3. Allow the readiness check to run. Note any potential issues the scan identifies. Remember that some of the issues identified may not prevent you from taking your exams, but it is still a good idea for you to address them. These include:

    1. Low Internet Speeds: You may encounter connection issues during tests if your internet bandwidth is insufficient. You can improve your speed by using a hard-wired connection, sitting closer to your router, or taking your exams at a quiet, isolated location with a reliable connection (such as a library).

    2. High Ram Usage: The compatibility scan may indicate that your system is using a high amount of memory. Freeing up system memory will provide a smoother, more responsive experience. The best way to do this is to restart your machine before an exam and to ensure all other browsers and applications are fully closed.
