Migrating Content from Techsmith Relay to Panopto

Summary

During Spring 2020, Boise State will begin officially transitioning from the Techsmith Relay video hosting platform to Panopto. Relay will be decommissioned on June 30, 2020. This article guides users on how to migrate their content to the new platform.

Instructions

Step 1: Log into your Techsmith Relay library

Log into https://boisestate.techsmithrelay.com/, and you'll be directed to your library. Any video you have uploaded to Techsmith Relay is available on this page.

Step 2: Find the videos you would like to migrate

Unfortunately, Techsmith Relay videos must be downloaded individually. However, you can help to organize your migration in one of two ways:

  1. Sift through your videos and delete any you do not wish to migrate. 

  2. Create a new folder (perhaps labeled "Migrate to Panopto"), and move videos into it. You can select multiple videos at once by clicking the check box in the upper left-hand corner of the video, then selecting Move under the gearbox menu in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Step 3A: Download your videos

To download your video, click on it to open its unique URL. Beneath the video player, locate and click Download near the bottom-left of the menu. An MP4 will immediately begin downloading. 

Step 3B: Downloading captions (optional)

If your video has captions associated with it, you can download them separately:

  1. Click on the video.

  2. Click on Accessibility below the video.

  3. On the drop-down menu, select Edit Captions and click Confirm.

  4. Click on the Export button near the top right-hand corner.

  5. Choose the .SRT format and click Export.

  6. Captions will immediately begin downloading.

Step 4A: Upload videos to Panopto

Navigate to https://boisestate.hosted.panopto.com, and select the MyBoiseState option. After logging in via Boise State single sign-on, your account will be created automatically.

Once in Panopto, click on the Create menu, then Upload Media. Here, in bulk, you can click to select your recently downloaded files from Techsmith Relay, and they will be uploaded to your personal folder.

Step 4B: Merging captions to Panopto video (optional)

If your video has captions associated with it, you can merge them with your Panopto video, once it has uploaded:

  1. Under the video, click on Settings.

  2. On the left-hand menu, click on Captions.

  3. Under Upload Captions, click on Browse.

  4. Find the .SRT file and click Upload Captions.

  5. Navigate to your video to review the captions for accuracy.
