Giving Extra Credit

Canvas has no built in extra credit functionality. However, there are a few workarounds to allow you to give extra credit.
Zero-Point Assignment
If you want to add extra credit that isn't associated with a particular assignment, you can create a new assignment with zero points possible and any submission type.
Add Extra Points to an Existing Assignment
If you want the extra credit to be tied to an existing assignment, you can give more points than the maximum when using the Gradebook. See the Manually Grade a Single Student section in the Grading Assignments in Canvas page.
If the assignment is a quiz, quizzes allow you to use Fudge points at the bottom of the grading page. You can use this to provide extra credit.
Adding Extra Credit in Rubrics
You can add extra credit to a rubric by making the rubric worth more points than the assignment it is tied to. While Creating a Rubric, make a set of criteria that matches the number of points the assignment is worth. Then add the extra credit as a new criterion. For example, if the assignment is worth 15 points, create the first criteria that add up to 15 points, then create a criteria named "Extra credit" worth 1 point.
Additionally, when grading an assignment using a rubric, you can type a number of points higher than the maximum, much like grading with the Gradebook.
