Adding Images to Pressbooks

This article will describe how to add images to Pressbooks.

Uploading Images

  • In a chapter, click the "Add Media" button
  • Upload your image either by dragging and dropping the file or by selecting files
  • Add a title, caption, alt text, and/or description, then click "Import into Post"

Image Information

After an image is added to your book, you can edit it by selecting the image. This will show a menu at the top of the image. From this menu you can the image alignment, delete the image, or click the pencil to change the settings. In addition, you can edit the caption at the bottom of the image.

Editing Screen

When you click the pencil, the editing screen will appear. You can edit the following:

  • Caption
  • Alternate text (see Adding Alt Text to an Image in Canvas article for some guidelines for writing good alternate text)
  • Image alignment
  • Image size
  • Linking preferences
  • Advanced options

Advanced Options

When you open the advanced settings, you can change the following properties:

  • Image title attribute
  • CSS class
  • Open link in new tab
  • Link rel
  • Link CSS class

You can also edit the image within the image settings – Pressbooks includes basic editing options, such as crop, rotate, and scale.
